Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd.), on Saturday said that he was sad and disappointed with the way the current threatening security situation in the country is being handled. He said that “security agencies should invite and question the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore who had threatened to unleash violence on Benue State and later justified the killings and their roles.” The former head of state, who cautioned that if nothing urgent is done to address the security situation in the country that it could lead to a religious war, also called on President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to make more efforts to tackle the insecurity in Nigeria. TPetty Thief Caught With 15 Mobile Phones Taped Around His Body

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has arrested a man identified as Aaron Kawombe, while trying to smuggle mobile telephones into the country. Kawombe of Nakoloke of Mbale, Eastern Uganda was arrested by the Enforcement team in Malaba, Eastern Uganda, according to statement released by the URA. The statement said Kawombe crossed into the Malaba side of Kenya where he bought 15 Itel phones. He allegedly went to a small corridor near the shop where he sealed the phones on his body (stomach and lower chest) using cello tape. He later said to haveboarded a vehicle, which heading to Mbale. He was arrested at a URA checkpoint in Malaba were officers do random checks, the statement added. URA said smuggling continues to affect revenue collection and causes unfair competition in the market among other impacts

UMUAHIA— A disaster was reportedly averted at Umuohu Okpula, Ndume community, Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government area of Abia State, when a vigilant grandmother prevented a four-day-old baby from being carried away by a hawk. About 61 top universities in the United Kingdom will be going on an industrial strike action for two weeks over planned changes to staff pensions. According to BBC, University of Oxford, Cambridge University, Imperial College London, University College London (UCL), University of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and York are among the universities affected. A week ago, members of the University and College Union (UCU) voted in favour of industrial action, with staff expressing fear about the pension changes, which they say could cost an average lecturer £200,000 (N101 million) over the course of their retirement.On Monday, the  UCU confirmed plans   to embark on the industrial action, except demands are met. Four Welsh Universities also confirmed plans  to join the strike . Of the universities present, 61 voted overwhelmingly in favour of action, with 88 percent in favour of strikes and 93 percent in favour of action short of a strike. Oyo workers begin warning strike

Three labour unions in Oyo have directed workers in the state employment to stay from their duty posts for three days, starting from Wednesday. The unions are the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Joint Negotiating Council (JNC). The directive was issued in a statement jointly signed by Kofo Ogundeji, NLC state secretary, Falegbe Mayowa, TUC state secretary and Olabode Akinfenwa, JNC assistant state secretary. They said the action was to call on the state government to address the 13-week-old strike of the state-owned tertiary institutions and 256 sacked workers of Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso. It is also in solidarity with complaints presented by the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) of 56 months accumulated unpaid pensions and gratuities of retired primary school teachers and a halt in workers’ promotion since 2010.
