INEC Declares Akeredolu Winner Of Ondo Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the November 26, 2016 governorship election in Ondo State. According to Prof. Ganiyu Ambali, INEC Returning Officer, Mr. Akeredolu defeated two major opponents, Eyitayo Jegede of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), to clinch victory. INEC disclosed during the collation of results from 18 local government areas in the state that the victorious Mr. Akeredolu scored 244, 842 votes in the election while Mr. Oke won 126, 889 votes and Mr. Jegede 150,380 votes. Mr. Akeredolu, a lawyer by profession, who led overall by 94,462 will take over from Governor Olusegun Mimiko who has served two terms as governor of Ondo State. Ondo People Have Decided, I Am Humbled – Akeredolu

The All Progressives Congress candidate in the Ondo governorship election, Rotimi Akeredolu has said he is humbled, after winning majority votes at Saturday’s election. Akeredolu had won in 14 Local Government Areas out of the 17 LGAs, already announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission. ONDO ELECTION-AKEREDOLU LEADS

THE candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Rotimi Akerdolu, SAN, and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, were locked in a tight race, yesterday, in the Ondo State governorship election. However, according to unofficial results from  the 18 local councils of the state obtained by Sunday Vanguard, which are subject to authentication by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Akeredolu had a slight lead over Jegede in the election that was largely peaceful and witnessed impressive voters’ turnout. Electoral materials and officials arrived on time in most locations. Voting commenced by 8am and ended by 2pm while sor ting and counting of ballots  took place almost immediately. According to the unconfirmed figures, Akeredolu won in 10 councils while Jegede had the upper hand in eight. The official results are expected to be announced today.
