Alex Ekwueme dies in London clinic

Alex Ekwueme, former Vice-President of Nigeria, is dead.
He died at about 10pm on Sunday in a London clinic, his family has said.
Ekwueme’s passing was announced in a statement signed by Igwe Laz Ekwueme, his brother and the traditional ruler of Oko in Anambra state.
“Ekwueme family regrets to announce the peaceful passing away of their patriarch, the former Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme GCON,” the statement read.
“The sad event occurred at the London Clinic at 10:00 pm on Sunday 19th November 2017.”
President Muhammadu Buhari had last week ordered that Ekwueme be flown abroad for medical treatment.
Garba Shehu, senior special assistant on media and publicity to the president, said Buhari gave the order after he received a brief on the medical condition of the former vice-president.
Prior to that, he had been on admission at the Memfys Neurosurgery Hospital Enugu, where he lapsed into a coma after slumping in his residence.
